Analyst's note:  We have a right to have weapons.  Find out why.

Here is further discussion on this topic that needs to be considered by all:

John Bernard We need to hear an in depth conversation with this guy over the 2A. He has made statements in the past which indicated he supported "some" gun control.

Support of any gun control measures suggest a lack of understanding of the full meaning of "Rights"
.

While he can articulate the clear intent and understanding of the Founding Fathers about the value of keeping arms, this does not indicate his understanding of or the origin of Rights, as discussed over and over again, by the Founders.

I like this guy but he has not been held to task over his troubling comments about "some gun control".

When asked by Beck if people should be allowed to own semi-automatic weapons, Dr. Benjamin Carson said: "It depends on where you live. I think if you live in the midst of a lot of people, and Iâm afraid that that semi-automatic weapon is going to fall into the hands of a crazy person, I would rather…

Bob Anderson Ben Carson's warning about NOT registering guns can be found @ http://tinyurl.com/mnp3dqq

conservativetribune.comDr. Ben Carson has changed his mind on gun control, and is now warning Americans to never register their guns, for fear of economic collapse and martial law.

John Bernard His "it depends on where you live", argument is precisely what I am speaking about. Given this logic, a following argument could be made..."Should a person be able to keep a firearm?"..."It depends on where you live".

The leap from one to the other is
not vast nor unreasonable to assume.

A "Right", is pre-existent, endowed by our Creator, Natural in it's suggestion and beyond the reach of mere mortal man. IF, a man or group of men or academics decide it is "unreasonable" to honor the concept under a given set of conditions, another equally academic and well-meaning body of men, can come to a conclusion and justify even stricter measures.

His premise; "a crazy person, in a heavily populated area might take the gun", is precisely the argument you might use to insure unfettered access to all manner of firearms because any society so filled with sociopathic entities is precisely where you would want to be armed in any manner you deem fit to protect yourself and your family.

Concluding it to be safer to dis-allow law abiding citizens access to particular firearms because of a criminal element in the area is illogical and counter intuitive to the originating argument supporting gun ownership.

This is why, while I like the guy, I believe he is unsuitable for any political office...he simply does not understand that a Right is "unalienable", as described by our Founders.

Bob Anderson All good points John ... thanks!

John Bernard We seem to be having a problem finding men who fully, truly, understand the full scope and intent of the Founders on a variety of issues.

I believe this is what they refer to as the "post America" years.

It is the nearly indiscernible nuances in these kinds of discussions that get us in trouble.

Seemingly reasonable men, soft-spoken, truly America-first people who have these ever so slight, reasonable perspectives...things you don't immediately pick up and the majority of Americans, never pick up - or worst; agree with.

If you were to plug in any of the other Rights into that question and his response was the same, the whole country would take notice. BUT, given a majority of Americans are either anti-gun, gun stupid, or "reasonable" people seeking security, it is easy for them to consider this as the wise utterances of a very seasoned, intelligent and reasonable man.

Yeah; we need to have a discussion but it needs to be along the lines of which "Rights" (if any) we should be willing to shelf - permanently because this is where all of this "reason", leads.

Ben Carson on 2nd Amendment: People Can 'Protect Themselves From an Overly Aggressive Gov't’

CNSNews.com) – Dr. Ben Carson, a retired neurosurgeon and the author of six best-selling books, said the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution was put there so Americans could support the military, if needed, during a domestic invasion but “more importantly, so that people could protect themselves from an overly aggressive government, if that ever happened.”

Carson added that gun rights under the 2nd Amendment are “vitally important,” that he “would never compromise the 2nd Amendment in any way,” and that one of the first things dictators do is confiscate people’s weapons, which “we don’t ever want to allow” in America.

Carson, awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2008, made his remarks on July 19 at the three-day Western Conservative Summit 2014, sponsored by Colorado Christian University and held in Denver, Colo.

Initially stating that he has argued with some people on the conservative side about the issue, Carson then said,  “I feel, first of all,  that the Second Amendment is vitally important and I would never compromise the 2nd Amendment in any way. It was put there for a very specific reason, so that the people could act in support of the military in case of an invasion.”

“But more importantly, so that people could protect themselves from an overly aggressive government if that ever happened,” he said.

“So we absolutely cannot compromise that because all we have to do is look back through history and see what happened when various dictators rose to power,” said Carson.  “One of the first things they always did was confiscate the weapons. So we don’t ever want to allow that situation to occur.”

“We don’t even necessarily want them to know who has weapons,” he said.  “You have a right to have weapons.”

Dr. Carson’s latest book, One Nation: What We Can All Do to Save America’s Future, is a New York Times best seller.    His 2012 book, America the Beautiful: Rediscovering What Made This Nation Great, was also a NYT's best seller.

In explaining his one concern about guns, Dr. Carson continued, “What I have said, which has caused some people concern, is that there are areas of our society where there is an inordinate amount of gun violence, and sometimes very heavy weaponry is utilized. What we need to be able to do is to sit down and have a discussion about, is there a way to ameliorate that situation?”

“And also, is there a way to keep weapons out of the hands of people who are mentally ill without compromising any provision of the 2nd Amendment,” said Carson.  “That’s what I’ve said. We need to be able to do that.”

Carson is the former director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, and a former professor of neurosurgery, plastic surgery, oncology, and pediatrics. He and his wife, Candy, established the Carson Scholars Fund to provide scholarships for hard-working students, "academic role models," in grades fourth through eleventh, who also demonstrate humanitarian qualities.  The program has aided more than 5,000 scholars in all 50 states.

The Western Conservative Summit, which occurs annually, is a three-day event that hosts leading conservative speakers and conducts workshops for citizen-activists and students interested in learning about the conservative movement.
