Concerned mother Dianne Lynn Savage found out her high school daughter was expected to learn “invaluable lessons” from a vocabulary plan that Savage asserts was promoting Muhammad and Islam.
So Savage took matters into her own hands and created a video in which she exposes what children are expected to learn under the Common Core standards.
The video has already been shared over 1.3 million times.
Spokesman for Pitt county schools Brock Letchworth said Friday afternoon that school officials have looked into the claim and released the following statement about the shocking lesson plan (H/T WNCT).
“Late last night, it was brought to our attention that there were questions about a vocabulary assignment in a senior English class at Farmville Central High School,” the statement read. “The course is designed to accompany the world literature text, which emphasizes culture in literature.”
The school system decided to lean on policies and protocols and did not seriously address the issue of what was being forced into the minds of children.
“Concerns expressed to us were related to the religious nature of sentences providing vocabulary words in context. After an investigation, we discovered that the vocabulary lesson was taken directly from a state-adopted supplemental workbook published by Holt, Rinehart, and Winston,” the statement continued.
This, of course, had nothing to do with the complaint made, revealing that these North Carolina educators apparently need some education themselves.
“This workbook includes a series of weekly vocabulary lessons, and the lessons are used to teach vocabulary in context. Lessons are divided into a trio of topics including expression, civilization, and the environment. This particular lesson was pulled from the civilization section of the workbook.”
Their response was formulaic and did not address the problems were expressed not only by Savage but by more than 1.3 million who shared her concerns as well.
“Our school system understands all concerns related to proselytizing, and there is no place for it in our instruction. However, this particular lesson was one of many the students in the class have had and will have that expose them to the various religions and how they shape cultures throughout the world.”
Their response went on to highlight the specific Common Core standards that this particular vocabulary lesson was intended to teach.
What Savage and many other conservatives are worried about is, just why is it necessary to use Islam to teach those Common Core standards? And how often are Christianity and Judaism being used to teach them?
