A California seaport is preparing to install radiation detectors as part of a Homeland Security Department effort to prevent terrorists from smuggling nuclear or radiological weapons into the nation, the Ventura County Star reported today (see GSN, Feb. 28).
The department has already installed detectors at the 22 largest seaports, handling 98 percent of inbound cargo, and is now erecting the devices at remaining entry points, according to the Star. ...
