While our politicians are "politicking" and spending our tax money and that money coming from our children yet unborn, the ability to essentially "unplug" this nation for an extended period of time and create a new dark age is known to exist. The only thing that seems to explain their inaction beside their greed and desire for power is either they are scared into inaction or they believe they should simply "... be merry, for tomorrow they die." In either case, the American people stand to lose it all. The Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP), of which I'm speaking about here, could come from a naturally occurring solar flare from our sun according to NASA (we've already been known to have one such natural event in the 1800's) -- or according to other multiple sources -- from a single a high-altitude nuclear weapon exploded over the United States.
Such a weapon could be launched from ship(s) off our shores from a second-rate missile system. A Russian company is marketing a devastating new cruise missile system which can be hidden inside a shipping container
This is not a newly recognized threat. We now have Iran building nukes (some experts actually believe they already have 30 to 40 simple nukes -- see BOMBSHELL ALLEGATIONS...), and N. Korea already has them.
It is estimated that 9 out 10 American would die within a few short months of an EMP attack. The impact would be almost unbelievable.
We learn the following from U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, (R- MD) "While one part of the federal government was warning us of possible solar electromagnetic pulse (EMP) damage to our electric grid, a key Senate commission approved a bill to ignore this threat," Bartlett has estimated that $100M could do much to save America from such damage. If we wait till after the fact the cost could be $1 trillion to 2 trillion.
To better understand one of our enemies (Iran) who is on a global, Islamic jihad, it is instructive to examine the history of nuclear arms control over the past 30 years. It is also critical to remember that when Iran gets the bomb, they have plans to do so, and will use it.
The other critical point to keep in mind is that this enemy is driven by a religious ideology and does NOT think like we do. We can NOT safely apply our logic to what they will do.
They will also murder their own people to accomplish their jihad. This article reenforces these thoughts by example: "The reappearance of the 12th Imam will usher in a war between Israel and the Shia", a decisive war which will decide "the fate of humanity."
Ahmadinejad repeatedly declares, "We don't shy away from declaring that Islam is ready to rule the world. We must prepare ourselves to rule the world" along with "I will bring the death that the Shi'ite are experiencing in Iraq to the streets of America with the martyr brigades that are ready to act."
[....] Ahmadinejad's chief strategist, Hassan Abbassi, who heads the Center for Security Doctrines Research of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (RGC) explains: "We have a strategy drawn up for the destruction of Anglo-Saxon civilization...we must make use of everything we have at hand to strike at this front by means of our suicide operations or by means of our missiles. There are 29 sensitive sites in the U.S. and in the West. We have already spied on these sites and we know how we are going to attack them."

"On August 15, 2003, 55 million people received a brief glimpse of what an electromagnetic pulse attack would be like when a major blackout rolled through the northeastern United States and Canada. For the most part, services were restored within a day. But this would not be the case after a real EMP attack.
Heritage’s James Carafano explained the potential impact on the United States–and the world:
The result of a massive EMP event could be devastating. Communications would collapse, transportation would halt, and electrical power would simply be nonexistent. Not even a global humanitarian effort would be enough to keep hundreds of millions of Americans from death by starvation, exposure, or lack of medicine.
Nor would the catastrophe stop at U.S. borders. Most of Canada would be devastated, too, as its infrastructure is integrated with the U.S. power grid. Without the American economic engine, the world economy would quickly collapse. Much of the world’s intellectual brain power (half of it is in the United States) would be lost as well. Earth would most likely recede into the “new” Dark Ages.
The threat of an EMP attack is by no means a new one, yet little progress has been made in safeguarding the country against such an event. In his latest analysis, Carafano surveys EMP readiness and recognizes serious shortfalls in American security.
America—at all levels of governance—is unprepared for an EMP attack. Despite the clear recommendations of both the 2004 and 2008 EMP Commissions, U.S. government agencies have not taken planning for their response to an EMP attack out of the theoretical stages. This is especially alarming considering the official consensus on the severity of the threat and on appropriate solutions as articulated by the EMP Commission, the other aforementioned commissions, and the overwhelming majority of the expert community. [....]"
