Analyst's note: If you have time but for one article today, this is absolutely the one to read and consider. As our centuries old "tides of war" with the Islamist jihadists approach yet another high-water mark, we can put our defense spending (gutting our Army and Marine Corps ... that would be the 'pointy end of our spear') all in perspective without the political spin.
In July 29, 2010, the Quadrennial Defense Review Independent Panel clearly identified five global trends facing the military:
- Radical Islamist extremism and the threat of terrorism,
- The rise of new global powers in Asia,
- Continued struggle for power in the Persian Gulf and the greater Middle East,
- An accelerating global competition for resources, and
- Persistent problems from failed and failing states.
Here can also now see how intolerant religious bigots from the Saudi Arabia-based Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), whose nations oppress non-Muslims, can dictate to the U.S. on limits to American freedom of speech. We now see the Obama administration yielding a huge propaganda victory to Islamist regimes seeking to curb American speech deemed "offensive" to Muslims.
The Obama administration, through its secret three-day State Department meeting this past week, has aligned itself with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to back the United Nations tolerance resolution 16/18. The measure was adopted by "consensus" without even a vote at the United Nations Human Rights Council last March. Yes, within days, the United Nations is poised to endorse the resolution!
This past Wednesday, at the close of the three-day closed door session headed by the United States, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told the final session that the resolution adoption had "ended ten years of divisive debate where people were not listening to each other anymore."
